A Startup Idea Every Day #1.
Yes, you heard me.
Going into 2014, I decided I was going to read more, write more, and watch less. So for january of 2014, I'm going to give away a brilliant startup idea every day, for 31 days.
Part of the reason I decided to do this was that I keep comping up with ideas that I would really like to see set into motion, but I am already way to bogged down with my current projects. For me, this is a creative exercise that involves me pushing my ability to think of new ways we can use technology. Enough talking.
Idea #1
An e-commerce site designed for developers.
How would this work? I'm a developer, I've got quite a few websites, and I would like to be able to easily monetize traffic, but I don't want to have to claw at revenue from AdSense or Amazon or any other affiliate platform. I would like to be able to display a product on my website, and when users click on it they would be taken to a purchasing page. Once a purchase is made, I would get whatever the difference was between the price I sold the product at, and the price the owner of the product wants.
Who actually sells the product? Think of all the people who sell items on eBay, Amazon, or Etsy. They could list their product on this website, with a photo, description, etc., and than any developer who was interested in reselling it could put the product on their website at a markup that the developer determines.
How much room for growth is there with this idea? Tons. The way I've envisioned it, on one side of the site, there would be the merchants selling the products. The list as many items as they would like to sell. On the other side, there are the developers. Developers would have access to a robust API that would allow them to build an entire online store, without ever seeing merchandise, or printing a shipping label. The API could even include the ability to pay for an entire shopping cart full of items. There are a lot of possibilities with this startup idea, what are you waiting for, go do it!
